Easter comes but once a year. But this year the Easter Bunny was not participating, not taking charge, not helping out. The other animals had their duties and were working well. Not the Easter Bunny! Why? His excuse was that no one ever thanks him for all the work he does to create a special day for kids all over the world. So, he cancelled Easter. Oh my, oh my. A wise and thoughtful owl is consulted. His solution warms the heart of the bunny. What the Easter Bunny is told is important for all kids to know. You’ll have to read the book to find out what that is.

What happens when all the other animals are doing their part to get ready for Easter but the Easter Bunny has had enough? He feels unappreciated, unloved, and that all he does means nothing. With a little help the Easter Bunny realizes that what he does really does matter and that children everywhere do love him and appreciate what he does. All told this is a cute book that has a good story and a good moral. I felt like some of it was a bit 'preachy' and a bit too focused on the eggs and candy aspect and less on other important parts of Easter. This is not billed as a Christian book so I am not talking about faith aspect of Easter. Easter is more than candy and eggs. And this book leaves that out. In my adult opinion, some of the wording in this book is too mature for a younger reader/listener. The rhyming was a bit off so it was awkward to read aloud as well. Don't just take my word for it, as I read it with Goobie (4) and MooMoo (6) and asked their opinions of the book as well. I skipped Squirt (2) for this review as she wasn't really into much but trying to swipe the screen and Munchkin (8) rolled his eyes at me as he's been reading middle grade books for a while now (read too smart for his own good!).Goobie really liked the story. He loved the pictures and asked to read the book multiple times. Some of the words he kept asking for them to be explained and other went so far over his head that he didn't even know how to ask. With multiple readings and some explaining he seemed to 'get it' better but his favorite was still the pictures.
MooMoo said she really liked the book. Her favorite part as when the Easter Bunny chose to go back to work for Easter. She really wanted to read it on her own however many of the words were too advanced for her reading level. Again, as with Goobie but not as involved, there was some need to explain what the words or intent of the words were. All in all though she liked it and has continued to try to read it independently.

Children's Books EASTER IS CANCELLED! (Adorable Bedtime Story/Picture Book About Easter, Being Responsible, and Appreciating the Efforts of Others, for Beginner Readers, 30 Illustrations, Ages 2-8)
Colorful children's book about the bunny who this year has cancelled Easter. All the other animals are preparing for the holiday but the bunny is swinging in the hammock.
He simply lost heart no one ever thanks him for all the work he does.
A little boy comes to the rescue and explains what is most appreciated and how it is shown.
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
The Easter bunny is feeling underappreciated and wants to shirk his responsibilities. His friends are concern and seek advice. Can they help the Easter bunny? Will Easter be saved.? Pick up this book and find the answers, you will not be disappointed.
"Easter is Cancelled" is a wonderfully written book that is easy to read and illustrated with colorful picture to keep children entertained. Great for beginning reader as well as a picture book. Through the pages children will also learn about responsibility and more.
Easter is Cancelled, is a pretty basic story, basically the Easter Bunny decides since no one seems to appreciate what he does, kids never say thank you, why should he bother doing it, so puts up a yellow sign saying Easter is Cancelled. The other animals on (a farm I guess), start to panic and worry, but luckily an owl intervenes and tells them to find a human child to explain the importance of what the bunny does to him. Conveniently a boy is skipping down a path nearby. Will he convince the chocolate courier?
The author has taken the time to format the book to take up the whole Fire screen, with the pictures and text appearing together on the screen like they would a physical picture book page. A lot of self published picture book authors don't bother to do this with the resulting reading experience being a mess, so I always like to take the time to acknowledge and author who cares about their readers' reading experience.
But the story itself is a bit weak, not much really happens in it. We know the Bunny has quit, yet we spend a large chunk of the book with animals talking amongst themselves telling each other the same thing. The speech by the boy didn't seem natural talk for a child either. Plus would one kid who is being pressured to talk to you by other residents of your farm really going to change your mind after millions of kids around the world haven't bothered to utter one thank you. Perhaps the kid could have gone on TV, gone on social media, gone around nearby towns and appealed to a lot of kids to apologise for taking the bunny's hard work for granted and tell him how much they appreciate waking up to chocolate eggs each Easter. Then on mass they could have done something to show and convince the bunny.
What I expected to be a fun book for children about Easter turned out to be so much more. This story by Sally Huss is one that children, parents and teachers will all enjoy. Not only was it a silly tale that children will enjoy taking place during the Easter season, but it was a book that teaches an important life lesson.
The illustrations were colorful and bright which will appeal to the youngest of readers, while "cool" enough for the older children to not view it as a baby book. As parents and children read this book, they can discuss the importance of lesson being presented. How doing things for other is the golden rule, and we should not expect others to praise and thank us for each and every small little thing which we do. We should be happy with the knowledge that we have done good for others, rather than be called out by others with praises.
